Dealing with Nilakuthi
There are only few people who know about Nilakuthi. The reason is simple. It is just a small village in the Imphal East district of Manipur. This small village is the home of about 500 people living there. The people living there mostly lives on farming. Farming is the main occupation of the majority of the people staying there. paddy is the main crop grown and rice is the main food of these people. The Imphal river flows there dividing the village from Khonghampat. Nilakuthi has a big playing ground or field which is has football posts and volleyball net. This ground has seen many state and national players in the past. Of those who have played football in the national level, mention may be made of Tiken, Apao, Thokchom Bidyasagar (Johnson) , Ngangom Raju etc. This village Nilakuthi has also produced many other players in other different fields. Dr Nandeibam Kameshore is the only doctor produced by this old village. He does free community check ups for the villager all the time. The village looks great in the Yaosang festival like any other village and towns in Manipur. There is a Glucose factory and a drug processing factory but both of them are not functional for more than 10 years. The state government is building a new food processing industry in this village. An Assam Rifles battalion is stationed in this village for maintaining law an order in the surrounding area. But to many people, they are not at all necessary as law and order in the surrounding area is fairly good.
