Thokchom
Thokchom? What is this thokchom? I heard this question a thousand times in my college life. People outside Manipur finds it very hard to accept that Thokchom is a very common manipuri surname in Manipur. Well I belong to a clan called Moirangcha with the surname Thokchom. That makes me think Thokchom is a Great family. Thats my ego actually. Who would say bad words against his own belongings, but thousands and thousands will say good word for their own belongings. Thats what I am trying to do. If you are new to this word called thokchom, learn from now that it is just a surname in a place called Manipur. And also for your information, I don’t know the real meaning of thokchom. I am writing this because I am fed up of answering what is thokchom and what does it means. In fact an interviewer have even asked me to say the meaning of Thokchom. What was I to say than “I don’t know”. And when I told him the truth, he reacted by saying I should at least know the meaning of my own surnames and names. Thats surprising for me and I am still searching for any meaning of it in any available languages in the whole of this world. Anyone can comment here if they want to help me in this small mission.
